When it comes to a successful internet business, there are 3 main ways you can make money. Here they are!

1. Work as an affiliate for another product or service. This is a great way to get started when you have limited resources, and you are wanting to get your feet wet making a few bucks online. Some people find a way to make a living doing affiliate marketing, but others get frustrated by the amount of work it takes, and typically at most you are making a 50% commission. So you may work 2-10 times as hard for the same pay as if it were your own product or service!

2. Create your own product. This sounds harder than it is. Information products are relatively easy to create. 3. Create your own membership site. You are the expert. You’ve got unique knowledge in a particular area, and people will pay you monthly to join as members to get special content. This is more work than the first two, but will usually pay off quite a bit more with the right marketing. When I was first getting started on the internet (and actually one of the things that spurred me on to start doing internet business full time), I read the book called Multiple Streams of Internet Income by Robert Allen.

Robert Allen was well known for his expertise in the area of getting wealthy from Real Estate, and his more famous book “Multiple Streams of Income”.

In his internet book, he describes how he made $20,000 in one day on the internet, starting a business from scratch. Going into it, he didn’t know much of anything about internet business. He taught himself, came up with a product, and launched it in 1 years’ time. The day he launched was when he made the $20k.

Given, he was able to take the time to master everything online, as he didn’t have to worry about paying bills as he built up his business. But even with this, I saw what he did and thought “If he can do 20k in one day, surely I can figure out a away to make a few thousand a month and create more freedom in my life!”

You may not be able to take a year off to build a business. But what if you KNEW that if you spent 2 hours a day for 6 months that at the end of that 6 months you would be able to earn $10,000 all at once, and get automated monthly payments after that of over $1000? Would that be worth your time? Seeing what Robert Allen put together in 1 year to me was enough to kick me in the ass and get over all my excuses!

Now, several years later, I am at the point where I am creating MULTIPLE streams of income online. And I have to say, it is fun and rewarding! I have one business where I’m the expert and dominate my niche, another where I am extremely passionate about and am carving out a niche in, and a third business where I am just starting out, but loving the stuff I’m selling.

As Allen’s two books point out, it is important to not put all your eggs in one basket. You never know what kind of changes are in store online or in your industry that could affect your income stream. But the main thing remains- the time to get started online is now, even if it takes you weeks, months, or a year to earn your first dollar (or 20,000 dollars!).
